National League asks the Government.

Post by GardenGareth » Tue Sep 15, 2020 11:15 pm

The National League has asked the government for 1,000 fans to be allowed in to all games from the start of October.

Hopefully we will get an answer soon.

On the contrary, the computer says “unable to return a definitive answer”

The response is likely to be yes for some, and no for others, based on geographical differences.

Question response is likely to be deferred to a regional level, so outcomes will vary with the different local indicators.
Solihull and Halifax, almost certainly will both be refused. While others have a bit more of a chance.

Whatever is decided it's needs to be decided quickly as the first scheduled match is just over 2 weeks away and the Club needs to get it's various schemes up and running and then tickets can be sold.

and therein lies the problem, the Government cant decide because it seems that they don't know what is going to happen day after day. Without trying to make this too political, that is not a dig at the Government, just that as soon as they thing they have got on top of the problem, other issues arise.

From what I have heard over the last couple of days, I would be very surprised if the league starts again at the beginning of October. The latest idea I heard this morning was to have a national lockdown over the school half term at the end of October. We are due to play 3 games that week (1 FA cup and 2 league away games). MattA suggests that Solihull might have problems having crowds due to the infection rate in their area, and of course we have them 1st day of the season. I realise that there wont be any away fans present, but that doesn't mean that any of the Solihull team/staff wont be infected (unknowingly) and attend. He also mentions Halifax, which happens to be our 2nd Saturday home game of the season.

I realise that all clubs at this level and the 2 below are trying to get organised for the start of the season in a couple of weeks time but at the moment that seems impossible. as an example, clubs in the EFL were given the opportunity to have pilot events this weekend, but Hull have had to cancel that at short notice due to the cases in the area.

we all hope that we will be able to attend and watch a match, and the club seem to be doing as much as they can to make that happen, but at the moment, unless anything changes, I cant see that happening.

If the league doesn't start until the new year, I can't imagine there will be many clubs left in non league by then.

How are clubs meant to pay bills (and player wages) with zero income?

Unfortunately I don’t think it can be decided in a definitive way. Certainly not firmly enough to plan for the whole season ahead, or confirmed as being a final decision to proceed on either a medium or longer term basis.

Charlton Athletic are to be allowed 1,000 fans in the Valley for three upcoming home matches, and a decision for them will be pending, and is dependable on the perceived result of that pilot scheme, and will follow a few weeks later.
