It's worth remembering Payne was with Ebbsfleet on loan last season and was part of their relegation side. I can see a lot of head scratching going on wondering how a side with Payne, Ugwu and Goddard went down, but there we go.

Because they're not the players they were earlier in their careers. It always amazes me how people cry out for resigning old players who were good for us years ago. Personally I think we need to resign Walker, Scotty and Hay, they were amazing for us, if we had them this season we'd rip the national a new one.

You could also say, particularly Josh Payne played in a really really good team (in 14-15) I'm not sure Ebbsfleet match up with our team that almost made the play-offs. Quite a few of that squad play in the leagues above or in decent teams in this division.

It's still quite a drop from League 2 to National League South when he's not particularly old!

Ebbsfleet went down because they were defensively abject - 68 is the worst goals conceded in the entire league. Their goals scored was pretty average, so players like Payne and Ugwu still have something to offer, but they couldn't keep the ball out while they did it.

That's down to recruitment and tactics. Lost one of the best keepers in the division in Ashmore, lost their centre back pairing from last season (which included their captain), didn't replace any of them appropriately and spent a long time relying on Jack King to play it out from the back. No wonder he retired!

Our team with Ugwu almost went down. He hasn’t reached double figures in a season in 3 years since he left.

Goddard hasn’t been any good for least the last two seasons. He got 17 goals for us in his final season - has 7 in 4 seasons since.

Injuries have probably played their part. Hyde before he joined us was struggling to find the net somewhat. Ugwu had a good return at Ebbsfleet.

Some players suit certain clubs/managers etc.

Yemi Odubadi stuck one past Sam Howes.

Forgot about him. He made it 3-2 in the 94th minute, just like he did for us in Betsy's last game.

Yemi was really good for us I thought. In terms of games and contributions, much more of an ex card than Sam Howes!

No wonder Dorking did not win with Howes in goal and Wheeler on the pitch! I have a bit of sympathy for Howes as he joined them on loan close to lockdown! In fact, it looks like he failed to keep a clean sheet in the games he played. Poor lad.

Howes looked frightened when he played for us. A keeper needs to be arrogant, otherwise they are never going to recover from the inevitable mistakes.

Yemi was a fantastic player. One a lot of people wanted us to sign over the years and very much lived up to the hype.

Pretty sure we had him on loan from Eastleigh and then he did really well for us but then got recalled by Eastleigh. I think we then tried to sign him but he was on decent money at Eastleigh so declined. I thought he was a good player and perfect in a big man smaller man strike partnership shame we couldn't keep him for a lot longer.
