Does the future look bright?

Post by jezb78 » Wed Apr 16, 2025 9:01 am

In what can only be described as a season most would want to forget, it amazes me that if we could have turned just 4 losses into 4 wins then we would be in the playoffs!! The change in the 2nd half of the season under Ardley has been remarkable in terms of what we saw up until he arrived, however we were still only 3 points off of relegation until 2 games ago!! Does this bode well for the future? Do we think overall there is now less quality in the division since we lost the big 3 Wrexham Notts County & Chesterfield. Next season could be very interesting under Ardley and anybody’s to win!

Ardley has done a great job since coming to Woking. Looking at who potentially will be coming down next season, Woking could push for promotion given the Manager we have, just need the players.

This is a bit of a crude calculation but this is the gap between 4th and 20th in the 24 team leagues:
Championship: 31 points
League One: 35 points
League Two: 26 points
National League: 17 points
NLS: 36 points
NLN: 29 points

In our division, more than any other, the difference between a team likely to be in the play-offs and a team fighting relegation is incredibly slim. Obviously we'll never know, but if the change in ownership and manager had happened in the summer rather than just before Christmas, I think we could easily have been top seven. The league will shift again for next year with six new teams and lots of teams changing, but I am hopeful that we can be looking up rather than down for the first time in a couple of years.

The NL is an amazing league its almost impossible to call who will go down or make the play offs etc. there are some big clubs with lofty ideas, but I didn't think Barnet would win it, and I actually thought York would be similar to us! I think luck with injuries plays a major part, if we can sort out the goals for column it will certainly be very exciting next season.

Comparing ourselves to York City and goals scored

York have averaged 2.07 goals per game
We have averaged 1.05 goals per game

If we can up the goals scored, it very quickly turns defeats into draws, and draws into wins and we shoot up the table

I presume this is what happens, and he hasn't given the impression of someone who's leaving (however now I think about it he hasn't mentioned next year - probably due to making sure we're safe)
