36 Years Ago Today.

Post by Alec Guinness » Tue Apr 15, 2025 5:19 pm

It's 36 years ago since Hillsborough. We were away at Chalfont St.Peter that day. I remember going into the clubhouse at half time and it being shown on Grandstand as it was happening. At the time I think a majority of us watching events unfold all thought the same "bloody hooligans". Obviously we were all wrong. It was a watershed moment for spectator safety. It's on days like this that you recall that it's only a bloody game and enjoy it for what it is, regardless of the result.

There for the grace of God go all of us who watched football back then.

Hillsborough was the inevitable result of years of treating people who attended football as scum that should be caged.

Lest we forget.
Looking forward to see everyone again at Kingfield, soon.
Some interesting conversations will be had.

I was 11. It still makes me feel sad today.

One of the most sombre drives home from a game ever. Back then we just relied on radios and it was only about 5pm that we found out what had really happened

The pictures in the papers on the sunday and monday were horrible

Remember it well, a warm day , at a pretty and picturesque ground, think we won 3-1

Yep, one of those always remember where you were moments.

Seemed like a normal game at Chalfont, a good win, some comments about something going on at the FA Cup semi final, didn't think much of it...then everyone found out what happened.

Sadly there is plenty of people who still think the same!

No one deserves to not go home after a football game.
