Re: Match Thread Fylde H
We should be asking Okoli if he wants to stay permanently. Never fall in love with a loan player. He heads EVERYTHING.
Fylde are comfortably the worst team that we've played all season. They looked like they knew they were relegated long before today.

If we could get one of Okoli or Mazionis on loan for next season, I'd be delighted. Timi is brilliant, but having one of those monsters alongside him really transforms the defence.

Chin, be amazing to have him somehow. He's been worth the other 2 Millwall loanees. And also Mazionis. Thought Hinds was excellent too.
Our midfield needs some work no doubt for next season.
Still it's 2 wins on the spin(5 unbeaten?), and that should be enough. Make sure on Friday and happy days.

This raises The Gorman Quandry:Card Sharp wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 8:48 amA very poor game of football. Fylde edged the first half but were simply pathetic in the 2nd. Osude makes such a difference. Walker's streak is over, so hopefully will put to bed any talk of wanting him to stay next season. Sorry Lewis, i wish I felt different.

Yesterday he was outshone by Tunji. Nuff said. I appreciate he got pushed out into a novel position to try to make up for the loss of Beautyman, but play just went on around him. He was a passenger for most of the game.
But…
When you see the highlights, you see 90% of the few decent moments come through him, and of course (even though he got a lucky break) he SLAMMED one home from 25 yards.
It’s hard to ignore that he has got top quality when his head isn’t up his arse.
But for me, Clive, you really cannot afford a player carrying a yellow card for almost half their matches.
Now that we’re safe, I’m happy to say it aloud… I won’t cry if we keep the good Gorman, but the usual mad one can do one.

A win on Friday keeps the playoff dream alive.
Re: Match Thread Fylde H
I would personally like to keep Walker but Ardley sees him and Gorman training and in the dressing room, I will be happy with the decision he makes on those two either way .Card Sharp wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 8:48 amA very poor game of football. I couldn't believe what I was reading the other night from certain posters. Scores a couple of goals (which is his job) and all of a sudden LETS KEEP HIM. Whilst he's been better recently, he's been anonymous for the past year or so. If we are going into next season with Effiong and Ashford, I'd definitely be looking at someone else.Card Sharp wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 8:48 amWalker's streak is over, so hopefully will put to bed any talk of wanting him to stay next season. Re: Match Thread Fylde H
Walker's had enough games to suggest he's not the answer for us. Far from a terrible player, but you can't rely on him to get goals consistently.
As it is, I think most of our attacking players are probably set for next season. I imagine we start with O'Brien and Ward either side of a central striker. Ashford to be a replacement for O'Brien, Osude to come on for Ward and Inih to replace our new 25 goal a season striker that Jody Brown unearths in the summer.

Ward’s injury has probably put anyone off signing him, so he’s more likely to stay.

I wouldn’t even keep him if we were in the Conference South next season.

Just coming into the prime age for a footballer- one of the reasons i would keep him.Red and White Army wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 1:03 pmWalker is 26 years old tomorrow and has 12 league goals in his career.

Now O'Brien has had a couple of outings to get his fitness back up, i guess he has between now and the season end to prove he is worth signing for next season.Red and White Army wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 11:50 amO’Brien surely isn’t gonna be here next season is he?

I don't mind Walker - he works hard and some of his hold up play is decent. You can see there is a player in there somewhere. But his goal record as a forward in 2 years with us, and over his whole career, just isn't good enough. We already have Inih for next year and we'll likely be keeping Ashford and Osude too. I wouldn't be surprised if we go back for Morias either given the Dagenham connection. That's not many forward slots left, so I'd be surprised if we kept anyone else, particularly as scoring goals has been our biggest issue for the past 2 years.flagman wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 12:25 pmI was reading the Oldham forum , a supporter made a post saying they had too many players, players get chewed and spat out after only a few games go to another club and become a success. It’s sliding doors for a lot of players , injury or change of manager, not getting a good run in a team can really affect performance. I think Walker is a keep , he hasn’t scored many goals in his career but i am not sure he has been played as an out and out striker. During Doyle’s time , it could also be noted that there wasn’t much service given to our strikers.

We'd be better off with Reece Grego KFC....flagman wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 1:13 pmJust coming into the prime age for a footballer- one of the reasons i would keep him.Red and White Army wrote: ↑Sun Apr 13, 2025 1:03 pmWalker is 26 years old tomorrow and has 12 league goals in his career.

And no i don't want him either.
Re: Match Thread Fylde H
But now we’ve seen him, it’s a Walker Conundrum:
The lad’s been game enough over the last few months, Keeps running, got a decent touch, wins flick headers etc. but isn’t quick to spot gaps, doesn’t win the crosses, and frankly couldn’t finish his supper (great in training doesn’t win league points iirc).
Maybe someone should get a hold of the nice young fella and tell him he’s not a striker, to get some thick shin pads and try central midfield. It could be the making of him.
If he wants to be a striker, this level’s not for him.

Re: Match Thread Fylde H
Re: Walker, this certainly isn't his level to be a striker. He needs a couple of seasons a league or 2 below.
Re: Gorman...no doubt he has proven quality. He's only ever showed it in about 6 games for us. And he isn't Captain material and has very rarely stamped his authority on a game...
