Managers Contract

Post by Kingfield Ender » Fri Jan 10, 2025 8:18 pm

Was it ever mentioned how long Neal Ardley's contract was for ?

You'd hardly think Simon Bassey would have left Colchester for a deal that was short term either

Neither of the announcements for Ardley or Bassey mentioned the length of their contracts.

We are lucky to have them both, it's a measure of the new owners that we have them, they want to play nice football and I'm looking forward to seeing better players arrive, I hope they will be here for a while, it's been a long time since we controlled midfield in this league let's hope with some more additions we will get that control

Firstly, Ardley's had a great start. He's done the right things, got the right players playing in the right positions and picked up probably five more points than Doyle could have hoped to have in three league games. The trophy win, whilst rotating, was also a massive bonus. His CV implies he's 100% the right manager for the club.

But..... everyone got a little too excited about Doyle late last season. Let's see how it goes over a much longer period, before we are dishing out contracts that managers don't warrant. This isn't a great squad. There's no balance and we COULD feasibly go five without a win based on how this league is. Ardley was out of work FFS. Let's not get into a position like we were with Sarll.

Not everyone but too many have got too excited about all our recent managers in their early days, but then I guess that is the reaction to each preceding once exciting manager turning into a somewhat whiffy one.
Ardley has had quite a lot of luck, and whilst you dont win unless you actually score goals (a novel habit he has introduced) most of the luck was of the opposition screwing up type rather than the work harder get luckier type.

What is this “Luck” you speak of?

The negativity on this forum is frankly pathetic.
Looking forward to see everyone again at Kingfield, soon.
Some interesting conversations will be had.

It’s not negativity it’s staying realistic, and based on over reactions to previous managers starts.
The luck was some poor finishing by Altrincham, Maidenhead, and Aldershot (which as I said still required Will to do his thing and us to actually score goals to take advantage )

No manager has a good run which lasts forever. Why not just enjoy the fact that we have some momentum and a team with an interest in trying to a) score and b) win, rather than just waiting the undetermined amount of time before the wheels fall off so you can say: 'I told you so'.

Doyle started poorly, found a system which worked and kept us up last season. On that basis, he deserved the chance he got this season. In fairness to him, he lost some important players, had some issues with the budget and the uncertainty above him, but also got found out tactically and showed he lacked the knowledge and/or experience to make it work long term.

I'd prefer to enjoy those kind of highs and lows, rather than just saying it will eventually go to shit from day one.

To answer the OP - I would presume until the end of next season. We don't tend to go longer than 2 years. I think Sarll may have got 2 and a bit when he signed his extension. Equally, as you say, I doubt you pay to get his assistant if he's only here until May.

In fairness, you couldn't have been more negative about re-signing a prolific striker in Effiong which we so badly needed.

Absolutely, if you care to trawl through my posts on this forum and WhatsApp groups, you’ll see I’ve been very happily munching on my humble pie about that.
