New signing

Post by vinrouge » Sat Jan 04, 2025 12:11 pm

Aidan O'brien upon his release from LOI champions Shelbourne. He's labelled as an attacker https://wokingfc.co.uk/news/article/8781/

Looks a very impressive signing! He’s played with Beautyman and knows our assistant. International and a lot of Championship/League 1 experience. Still a good age. Good luck Aiden!

Good luck Aiden. Could be a very decent foil to Inih up top.

Hampshire 92 says more about Aldershit with the amount of players who have been through the door. You idiots posting inih as ex shit yet was Woking long before his spell at the wreck. Our new man played 5 games for your lot FFS think his Woking career might just be longer and better.

Pathetic! He played 5 games for you over 10 years ago.

Good to see our current evolution is of so much interest to you. How’s your new stadium plans coming along under Mr Azeem? I’m guessing his magic calculator needs a new battery again?

Harries will be like good wine, it is decanting, breathing better air to make the best of its flavour.

A Shots Loanee 11 long seasons ago, a very good one of that. Formed a great strike partnership with Brett Williams (ducks for cover).

7 goals in 9 games was fun to watch, scored a particularly nice one in the last minute vs Weston Super Mare. One of those successful loanee’s that I liked to keep tabs of for a while when he went back. Done really well at Millwall.

As he only played 5 games for Aldershot scoring 3 goals not really much time to make a judgement and hardly a player who's career was defined or built by Aldershot. Again amazes me how Aldershot supporters seem think a player is defined by playing a whole 5 games for them. Hopefully he will have a good few seasons at Woking helping us back up the league.

One of my favourite ever loan signings, was a class apart at times.

As you say, it was a long time ago, but if he's as effective at 31 as he was at 21, you've got yourself a great forward.

If we'd announced him I know I'd be happy.

On paper it's a huge signing and covers the sub striker spot Stretton/Moore had as well as giving us a starting left winger I guess.

With Ince making the bench the last month, maybe he'll come in to be the defensive midfielder/4th CB option that we're crying out for, and I honestly don't see much more business than a starting CB for a back 4, as Harries is a joke in a back 4 (but I actually quite rated him in a back 3, the perils of being a ball spraying defender who has the turning speed of Trevor Benjamin so needs cover either side of him)

Lets not forget Harries last ditch tackle against Maidenhead , he did really well to make that

He may not be a centre back suited to a back 4 but his range of passing has been in evidence since Ardley gave him options in front of him.

I wonder if the signing of O'Brien means Lewis will exit the building?

Conte/Lewis not even playing when Beautyman is shifted out of position, really means their time is up. Lewis was such a strange player to bring in by Sarll and even stranger to get retained by the desperate Doyle.

I'm not a fan of Lewis, but clearly some do rate him. Boreham Wood paid a fee to Wealdstone for him, and only four players were involved in more games than Lewis for BW when they finished in the playoffs in 2022-23 and were unluckily edged out in the last minute of the semi-final by Notts County. Like I say, he's not my cup of tea, but there was nothing strange about Sarll recruiting him or even Doyle retaining him.

Surely there was something strange about Doyle retaining Lewis when a) he was injured a lot of last season b) Doyle didn’t rate him enough to play him regularly when he was fit.
