Promotion and relegation to the NL next season

Post by JAM » Wed Apr 10, 2024 3:47 pm

as we are virtually safe from relegation from the NL, ive been looking at who might be joining us next season

NLN - Tamworth have been promoted as Champions. Scunthorpe are in 2nd, 3 pts ahead of Brackley in 3rd who in turn are 2 points ahead of Chorley. Alfreton are a further 2 points back, and they all have 2 games left. As we know, 2nd and 3rd get a bye to the SFs of the POs. South Shields are in 6, level on points with Curzon in 7th, with Chester 3 points behind. They also all have 2 games to play. Boston and Spennymoor are both level on points with Chester but both have a game in hand on those above them.

NLS - Yeovil are almost guaranteed to win the league, just needing 1 pint from 4 games, with the 1st of those tomorrow night at Truro. Below them, 4 teams are battling to be 2nd and 3rd, with Chelmsford in 2nd and Maidstone in 3rd on 80 points, 2 points ahead of Worthing and Braintree. They all have 2 games to play. Bath are in 6th on 70 points, 2 points ahead of Hampton, with Aveley just outside the POs on 67 points, 1 point ahead of Farnborough, who are 3 points ahead of St Albans. Apart from Aveley, they all have 3 games left to play, with Farnborough at home to Chippenham tomorrow night.

L2 - 3 points separate FGR, who are bottom, and Sutton, who are outside the relegation zone, with Colchester in between them. FGR & Sutton have 3 games left to play, Colchester have 5. Grimsby are 4th bottom and 5 points clear of Colchester, but they play each other next Tuesday.

Be good to get some new teams in the league next season, so Im hoping that Brackley and Worthing come up through the POs

Bit cocky for me. I will wait to the AGM.

Though saying that..... Worthing please. Been to all the others and they are shite, except for Aveley where I haven't been...but considering the other grounds/towns in the vicinity I think I can make a guess how attractive a prospect that is. Essex [shudders violently]

NLN - Brackley be good as a southern 'Northern' team.
NLS - Bath is a good day out, but the opportunity for another local game in Farnborough not to be sneezed at. Suspect Yeovil will do well next year.
L2 - Even though it's a dreadful, soulless ground in the middle of nowhere, hoping Colchester drop after years of escapism. No-one is going to shed any tears over FGR's continued descent from back where they came. Maybe they should have served chicken with their training ground pasta after all.

NL > L2. Hoping Alty do it, although seeing Bromley rip up their plastic would be amusing of sorts. Just not Gateshead and their athletics stadium, a dreadful advert for NL. And of course perish the thought the mob from down the A324 fluke their way up.

But need a point to make this relevant, else it's Chesham and Hornchurch we need to worry about

Preferences:

NLN
Want: Brackley or Boston (new grounds)
Don't Mind: South Shields (new ground but far), Alfreton, Chester, Curzon
Can fuck off: Chorley, Scunthorpe

NLS
Want: Worthing, obviously.
Don't mind: Chelmsford, Bath, Hampton, Aveley, Farnborough, St Albans
Can fuck off: Braintree, Maidstone

League Two
Want: Colchester would be the preference but
Don't mind: FGR or Sutton
NOT Grimsby. No. Fuck off.

“as we are virtually safe from relegation from the NL, ive been looking at who might be joining us next season.”

Can we do this when we are mathematically safe please?
Looking forward to see everyone again at Kingfield, soon.
Some interesting conversations will be had.

Brackley are perennial, get into the Play Offs and then lose out - hopefully this will be their year.

Quirky little ground and there are some great pubs in Brackley.

Because of the geography, they would do less travel in National League than they currently in a regional league

Perennial bottlers Brackley and Chelmsford will probably do the same again: ergo Scunny and Braintree imho

Nope. I’m just a worrier. But our lack of proper football Secretary has already caused an issue this season, I don’t really understand how the yanks are loaning the club money in relation to league rules (as in I don’t know what the rules are but had a vague idea there were rules about loans), there are grasses/ troublemakers amongst the chairmen, and the league board have previously treated us inequitably.

Relatively minor but the board insisted on the club building stuff for directors that apparently other clubs don’t have when our directors visit. And we’re making a big deal about it.
Who is on the league board?

Are we allowed to start talking about this now?

NLN - POs
Tuesday - Alfreton v Boston - winners play Scunthorpe away Saturday
Wednesday - Chorley v Curzon - winners play Brackley away Sunday
4th May - Final

NLS - POs
Tuesday - Braintree v Bath - winners play Chelmsford away Saturday
Wednesday - Maidstone V Aveley - winners play Worthing away Sunday
6th May - Final

L2 - FGR and Sutton are back with us

Brackley and Worthing would be decent, not been to Worthing since 1988. Plastic pitch now though.......urrggghhh

Curzon Ashton wouldnt be too bad from the North, Boston is a new ground and been so long since we played them, the others in the North, no thank you

Christonabike! The South draw looks positively ghastly!
Bath? Been there a million times.
Chelmsford? I’m not taking binoculars to football.
So it’s Hobsons Choice of Essex or Kent or West Sussex?
It’s a choice between a shit or snot sandwich.
Plastic, Plastic, or just plain hellhole.

*edit: might almost have been worth getting relegated to avoid any of that bunch!

When they admitted Chester City (basket case, lasted 28 games) and we lost the AGM cup.

In the other direction, would probably be good for one of Barnet and Bromley to go up, both have been consistently up there for a while and are potentials to do a Chesterfield next season

They also have the potential to do a Boringwood next season. Wouldn’t that be a shame…..

I'm leaning towards Bromley making it. If only because they'll need to rip up the plastic and it may never go down again... although they may.

Please can we get rid of one of Barnet or Bromley. Alty play great football and means another Manchester away day, I'd much rather keep them. Solihull is sterile, but Barnet and Bromley are just awful.

Sutton just about alive after Colchester thrashed at home tonight. They need to win Saturday (at MK), hope Colchester lose (at home to Crewe) and make up 5 goals in doing so.

If it ends up MK 1 -3 Sutton and Colchester 0 - 2 Crewe there will have to be a play off as they will be dead level, unless there is some countback on number of wins, in which case Colchester would pip it.
