Aldershot go down

Post by Somersetred » Tue Apr 22, 2025 5:08 pm

Unlikely as it is Aldershot could still be relegated. Barnet will want to be champions on Saturday at home by beating Aldershot, Daggers win, 3pts in it and then who knows on the last day. Spennymoor win the trophy, this scenario is what dreams are made of.

You'd need:

Aldershot to lose both games
Braintree to get a draw from Halifax or Rochdale
Boston to beat either Gateshead or Maidenhead
Wealdstone to take four points from Southend and Halifax
Dagenham to beat Altrincham AND Solihull

None of those things are that crazy in isolation. It's nice to dream.

Sadly it's a very long shot! I would be happy with them losing at Wembley, but again sadly I don't think that will happen, the have too much firepower

We don't really want them down though do we? As much as we throw some verbals and whatnot! At the scumbags it's a good fixture for both clubs each year which is a banker to raise nice money when fully attended

they'll still be dining out on the fact that Aldershot United or whatever 'carnation they were back then made it to the football league for a few months. Bit like Triggers new broom.

I for one certainly don't want Aldershot to go down. I really enjoy the atmosphere at the derby matches. There was a much better buzz in the ground yesterday than for most games, as well as obviously providing a much needed boost to revenue. In a similar vein, I would be happy to see Dorking promoted.

For me the sweet spot would be for Aldershot to get relegated and then saved by the AGM cup.
All the humiliation and trauma without us losing the fun and drama of the derbies, plus it would screw up their recruitment for next season.
A ‘derby’ with Dorking is about as enticing as Staines.

Far better for Aldershot to JUST stay up and lose at Wembley and look forward to another season scraping around the relegation places, than get relegated, recover and gain momentum/promotion/progress.

Everyone is far too nice. Want the cheats to get relegated, then again, then again. They can look then forward to a local derby with Hartley Witney. Meanwhile we are going up next year, Satanage down and we look forward to a trip to Broadhall Way on Boxing Day 2026.

Pretty sad if your Carlsberg of football seasons doesn’t involve success for your own club.

Agreed, the best way to get at a rival is to be better than them!
