Yes please. DS will know him too
Sarll had long since fled the scum before Carter signed for them, so this is perhaps wishful thinking. Would be great to see him back though.

Could a team contain Kretschmar and Carter? They do the same job.

Probably not.

Arguably it doesn't need to contain either.

I like the idea of Carter returning, especially if the rumours about Josh Staunton coming back are true. How far are we going to go to reunite that glorious Limbrick team?

Yep. This. Max will probably manage to get himself another year, but I wouldn’t bother personally. He’s had his best season for us by a country mile but he’s still bang average.

Carter? Not done all that much since he left when you look at his record. But could possibly be worth a look in preseason.

Eek! I am sure there must be plenty of players we have never heard of who could do a great job for us and become future Woking FC legends.

I can't see Staunton coming back we have (maybe) signed a 30 year old defender from them.

I think Max has been far better than 'bang average' this season and he is a player with League pedigree - at times he has carried the team - he is now in his prime

Carter is years on from his time with us as a league player - he is big, scores goals from midfield but has been injury prone

It all depends on availability and budget - of course we could do better - you always can (unless you're Messi or Ronaldo) ... Max for me would be high up the retain list for his energy, experience and goals and I would be intrigued to see how Carter has developed... its about building

Both will be good players at this level next season. I'll be surprised if either plays lower, and I can only see that happening if a conf south team threw a large bag of money at Max. Carter will have plenty of suitors at this level.

I take the point that perhaps they're not best suited to being in the same team regularly as they like to operate in similar areas but I don't consider them to be similar players either.

Some strange takes on Kretzschmar albeit from the same people who thought Champion was the next Maldini.

Carter when was playing regularly for us had the same issue Max does for me now. The position is so niche that if you sign him you pretty much have to play him.

For those who think that suggesting Max might not be needed is outrageous - where do you play him? For me he's a second striker, a Sheringham type. He doesn't beat a player and his passing isn't slick enough to be a true 10 off a striker. He can't be in centre midfield for the passing reason. He can't be a winger for the player beating reason. Where I do think he provides value is in that second striker busy role dropping back into midfield, when we're away from home. But it's (presumably) a lot of budget for a position you need half the season.

The only place Max excels IMO is attacking Mid behind two strikers, where he can make those later runs, have space in the box and more options in front. Hence why he was our best performing player under Dowse as (IMO) he was only one of 3-4 players not playing out of position in the 352. Unless we play a 352 or 4321 (ie no wingers) then Max struggles more. Unless we build a team around him to accommodate his strengths then he may look elsewhere in the summer.

Can anybody remind me what happened to the last manager that signed up Ex players as his recruiting policy?

Big difference is that players from Sarlls Yeovil are a bit better than Dowsons hampton

Not sure I'd eulogise quite so much about the quality of Yeovil's squad compared to ours. Apparently we're a bunch of underachieving pea-hearted losers, and yet we're only three or four points behind Yeovil. Did they also underachieve this season under their previous manager?

No, they had their budget cut and their best players sold

All fair notes. It'd still be hard to see him go and I don't think he's that hard to fit into the team, but as with most of these players, it does come down to Sarll's system and the % of budget used. Like I say, some Conf South big roller could throw a massive offer at Max knowing he'll peel off 20 goals at that level, and at that point it's a more difficult one.

What was the gap when Dowson left?

They were six points ahead of us but had played three more games. They're now four points ahead of us having played the same number of games.

Josh Staunton is now interim manager of Yeovil after Charlie Lee left them this morning. Aged just 26, he will take charge of their game at Altrincham on Sunday

Interesting. I wonder where Darren Sarll's former No. 2 will turn up next, having reportedly declined an opportunity to remain on Yeovil's coaching staff next season?

Connor Hall scored for Chorley in the play offs but was let down by his keeper, has anyone seen York's winner? What a howler!

Wouldn’t be surprised having read DS’s interview where he was talking about his influencers and contacts in last week’s Woking News and Mail.
