Seeing Marine on tv brings back great memories of our trip therefor the FA Trophy 3rd round in January 1980. Classic long haul coach trip and a cracking warm welcome before a 2-0 win. Fab fish and chips too.

Classic long haul coach trip

It felt like a local derby after the previous round at Ashington!! Stopping at Whitley Bay at 8am in January....

But yes, it was a cracking trip up to Marine.

My mate got thrown into Bourne Stream in the Park against the hooded Barrow twats.

Even after all this time, the Marine match still stands as one of my favourite Woking matches. Getting up there to find we'd had two players - Steve Adams and Gary Rolph - sent home (and then sacked) for naughtiness in the team hotel, we feared the worst. But we put in a great performance, particularly Derek Cottrell. He got both goals, including a great solo effort where he broke the offside trap just over the halfway line and ran with the ball while a Marine defender tried to haul him down. Somehow he managed to stay on his feet and poked the ball past the keeper.
