  • Chesterfield was a massive shock - "for 75 minutes we were the better team, only team that wanted to win it." First goal was a shocker to concede, second was the only time all season the centre-backs have lost their men.
  • "We felt that other teams went a bit too much" in pre-season - seems like lots of teams are picking up early injuries, which lends to our strong early start. Dagenham are certainly struggling in that department.
  • Goddard not injured on Tuesday, just not selected. Squad's there to be used. Looking for more goals out of the wide men.
  • "Delivery this season has been the biggest plus out of all our play so far." Names Cooper and Casey for those - "Moussa would have five goals, our delivery's been that good."
  • Wareham very close to the matchday squad. "Can't ignore a kid scoring hat-tricks, scoring goals left, right and centre."
  • No real injuries at the minute. Napa has a slight knock against Dagenham, but he'll be fine.
  • Was confident a few months back that Dempsey would come back. "Couple of league clubs wanted him, but he wanted to come here." No way that Blocky/Coops/Kane can play every game, he allows us to keep quality in the team. Another character who'll push to play, and did on Tuesday - "how long have you got in you? Sixty?" "F*ck off! I wanna play ninety!"
  • Not too many changes on Saturday. Back four's been solid, midfield has been brilliant. Slavi playing out of his skin for 18 years old.
  • Club has introduced a data analyst to take the analysis work off of the playing staff. Sophie, spent last year in Southampton's analysis department. She'll handle data for Woking, Ian analyses the opposition. Lightens the load.

Loving to hear most of all about the data analysis that’ll be getting going now we have a dedicated individual. This could really in time add some serious value!
So underestimated in some many industries. Can add value quite easily once a data set becomes comprehensive, giving a team like ourselves with limited resources the opportunity to add a couple of % that otherwise would cost in time or money so much more trying to be found in more traditional areas.

What data is being provided by the analyst?

Does this get mentioned?

Uses a platform to clip sections of the game in real time. Doesn't say what platform that is exactly, so no idea how granular the data gets.

I would like to imagine this individual has a certain idea, from previous role, on what is a good base set of data then the management team and playing staff can through advice or their actions then build upon this to create a data set that can generate improvements in;
Performance
Fitness
Game awareness
Opposition identification - areas of strengths/weakness etc...
Or so it’s my hope...

we're going to collect information and start creating new KPI's for players. Wingers must get in 24 crosses per minute, center forward must win every header where the ball is 9.3ft in the air travelling at 41 mph.... oh wait.................

Often attributed to Peter Drucker, but I think we're getting a bit off-topic. And I don't want to start a Drucker vs Deming vs Rail twitter storm.

Another sound interview from a "proper fella" though any chance of translation at the bottom of the page ?....... Strong accent is an under statement.

Sophie has got a Masters in this 'stuff' and is working free of charge to gain experience/add to her cv. Dowse is leaving it to Ian :-)

From the catch up video, one can see why!
Dowse can hardly hide his sceptical opinion, hopefully her good work will be able to make him start to think differently about it all....
