Maynard has done a good job at Wealdstone on a limited budget.

Would he jump at the chance to manage a FT team, probably
Is he the right person for the job. Not sure. As has been said above, is he any better than DS? Not sure he is

I presume thats skewed a bit by Wealdstone possibly working with the lowest budget in this league

it is possible, although we don't know if that is actually the case. the main reason is him not winning games, they are a point above us I guess, but apart from that I can't really see the appeal of employing a manager with zero full-time experience.

I don't see how 19th & 16th place can really be defined as a good job.

Maynard no thank you. That in my view would be a step back and we would have a thread on this board stating Maynard Sacked within a year. I'd like to think the next appointment will be a forward step not a backwards or sideways step.

in a tough league like this full of much bigger clubs than Wealdstone and on a limited budget that is exactly what it is, a good job, in keeping them in the league. Bigger clubs then them have been relegated in the time that they have been in the league

So he is basically Dowse, I would like to think we have moved on from those types of managers.

WC

You may have noticed in my 1st post above that I am not convinced that Maynard is the right person for the job. All I have done is shown that as a manager of a PT team is this league he has done a good job

Maynard would only be a sensible appointment if our money men were about to slash the budget/walk away. As we saw with Dowson, doing a decent job at this level with a small budget doesn't mean you're going to be able to significantly improve when you're given a bigger budget.

Maynard’s style of football is a lot easier on the eye than Dowse’s and Wealdstone continue to climb the table gradually each season. I think it’s even harder to do that with part-time resources now. If I remember correctly he was seen at Kingfield after Dowse was moved on.

I'm not saying Maynard is the answer, but he ticks a few boxes:
Does he know the level?
Does he outperform his budget?
Do his teams play decent football?
Would the Woking job appeal to him to boost his career?

Much prefer someone like that than McMahon or Bradbury who have had the big budgets and still failed.

It doesn't, but equally it doesn't mean a manager can't step up with a bigger budget. I'm sure the Cowley's (for example) had far more money at Lincoln than at Braintree.

It doesn't, but Cowley's only season at Braintree (when they allegedly had a budget of £275k) saw them finish third in our division and only edged out 2-1 by Grimsby in a two-legged semi-final. In no way is anything Maynard has done comparable to that achievement.

I very much doubt a National League manager would have the inclination or time to post on fans forums. They would probably already have spoken to the relevant people at the club over the last week...

Dean Brennan, based on absolutely nothing.
yeah I don't imagine him leaving Barnet at the moment. I am sure his open and friendly manner would be welcomed by our media team though.....
Dowe's buddy who has Barnet in 2nd with his own rich owner !!. Batting down the door no doubt.

Agreed, and he'd have a far better chance of being the answer if we didn't have an immediate situation to resolve, that's for sure. He's clearly a decent coach and clearly gets the most out of limited resources. Based on recent history has a skill of developing players that can then be sold on for profit too, all whilst maintaining enough of a core that he can keep his sides competitive.

Do folks think having a good contacts book is important? My feel was Dowses was limited but then maybe the budget was ?

Not questioning what the Cowley's achieved at Braintree is way beyond what Maynard has yet to achieve at Wealdstone.

Your argument was that because it didn't work when Dowse was given more money, then giving Maynard more money may not work either. It may not, we don't know, but there are examples (probably many) of managers continuing to have success with a greater budget.

I'm not particularly championing Maynard, but if he applied I'd expect he would be a serious contender, but thats for DV & JK, not an easy, but a crucial, decision.

I do find it hilarious that this morning someone told us their son had seen Stuart Maynard in O’Neills with Drew on Saturday night. Wealdstone were away to Halifax on Saturday…. 😂

Just to throw another name into the ring... Matt Gray.

He's done a great job at Sutton but maybe this season might be as far as they can go, maybe he'd want to jump before he's pushed?

My next door neighbour's auntie's postman saw John Katz talking to Gareth Southgate in a drive through KFC car park, at 4:45am this morning.

I'm guessing it's as reliable as the Maynard/Volpe rumour.
