New Woking FC Twitter colour scheme

Post by TWR » Thu Jun 25, 2020 4:31 pm

Not sure who it is that deals directly with our Twitter account, but just wanted to ask - is the new colour scheme on the Twitter profile pics related to a specific campaign or anything else in particular (for example, new kit colour/pattern - although how does that fit with the names I don't know?!) or just a change?

I like it, just very intrigued when it changed this afternoon.

Just a change as part of our social media graphics for the coming season (whenever that is!)

Fair play, thanks Nick!

I like it! Cheeky request, but could you make a half and half shirt template with that colour just to see what it would be like? ;-)

Which side would be white and which side red though...

I’m of the belief we should have red on the left, so that the badge shows up more clearly on the white

Controversial. :-) As someone who was a child in the early 90s in some of the best times of Woking FC, it has to be white on the left (as you are looking at the shirt) - that's how I see a Woking shirt.

The red is probably dark enough to get away with the badge on it and it still showing up well

So, as a new fan, and with the risk of opening a heated debate which way 'should' it be?

To me, the red on the left as you're wearing it makes the most sense but is it historical that another way is preferred?

There have never been any hard and fast rules on how the Woking shirt should be presented, but predominantly from 1887 to present day our shirts have been harlequin, i.e. alternate cardinal and white front and back halved shirts with “dark” (note not black) shorts and socks, with there being a slight preference on the cardinal half being on the right hand side as you look at the front of the shirt. The earliest officially written specifications from early 1930s members handbooks are cardinal and white halved shirts with dark blue shorts and this patriotic red, white and blue colour combination was predominant from after the Great War until around 1950, this was also the last occasion that our shirts were displayed as harlequin cardinal and white quarters – a combination which proved quite popular during our earlier years.

That's not the design of the new shirts though is it?

My brother asked the same thing - got annoyed that the kit design had suddenly changed!

If we released that colour scheme it would be the greatest Woking shirt of all time
Still Plugging away in the absence of the great one
