Planning committee outcome

Post by wokingbob » Tue Jun 23, 2020 9:10 pm

It doesn't feel like it's going well and approaching a vote.
In case it goes the wrong way.....

Can I plea that we bite our tongues and pens amd pause before responding...... if we're not careful, we could make the situation worse for the future. This is where we show what sort of people we are.

Fingers crossed still tho COYC

Most the councillors seem to be against the redevelopment of Woking FC & Kingfield, but a few do understand that the ground needs a bit of an upgrade.

It really would be useful to have a chairman call out some of these councillors that are using this as a stage for political points. The fact that one of the councillors almost laughs off the 4/1 for against ratio as a tick box exercise is shameful.

To me it seems a rejection of the density/height of the flats more than anything else. Most were in support of the club having a new ground - the challenge is paying for it!

I can’t quite see how the council’s recommendation was so far off what the committee would have an appetite for. None of them seem to be especially in favour of the whole proposal.

Application refused (8 Councillors against, 0 for, 1 abstain)

Still a process of appeal if the developer chooses.

It will cheer up the gimps who don't live anywhere near the ground but seemed concerned about parking I guess.

It was depressing to see. The public benefits reasons in favour appeared to have little support. Talk of creating a "slum" and an assumption that Woking FC will just be able to carry on, including continuing its community work, whatever happens. I had perhaps naively hoped more weight would be given to the public benefit and that the club would have earned some support from the Borough's elected representatives. I am sorry for all those that have put so much work into this, and don't know what the way forward is now. A bit of an upgrade would not be enough and I fear for the future unless a viable alternative may be found quickly - but it feels very evident tonight that many in the local area wouldn't miss the club if it weren't there anymore.

Awful, why would Dowse stay and who would sponsor us now in a ground that may fail H&S

What I think a number of people want is an upgrade of the stadium without the flats around the outside of it.

My fears have been relized but some won't be too concerned as Stevenage got relegated! Great shame for everyone at the football club who have worked so hard to try and make it happen. Thanks for your efforts to you all.

I found it extraordinary that rejections came through traffic and street scene. The traffic officer APPROVED the scheme, the PLANNING. Officer approved the scheme, but apparently people were more concerned about bungalows and prospectively failing lifts!!
Sit in the fifty foot high LGS and look to your right. Not many bungalows to be seen. A monstrous steelwork box is what you’ll see Councillors...

I am guessing that the Club have fallen victim to one too many Ray Morgan development schemes and this is some way of the elected reps clipping his wings.

The town centre behemoths, the Hoe Valley School/Sportsbox, Sheerwater, Dukes Court, the Guidford Rd gyratory project. The list is long over the past few years

Hopefully means can be found to provide alternative options. Who owns the houses that were CPO'd? Council or GoDev.

I'm not sure what the process is or how the club proceed but there has been so much talk of "We support the club and want it to progress but dont support the development" well its time to prove it!
