PLEASE! Do Not Understimate COVID-19

Post by Bobbo » Thu Mar 12, 2020 6:16 am

It's not paranoia, it's pandemic.

Just ten days ago Rome was as usual. Since last Sunday things are changing.
We have no more than 3000 mechanical ventilator in the WHOLE country, you can imagine what it would be like IF a large number of people should need help to breathe: or help them either let someone have a surgical intervention. One or the other, you can't have both.
Health workers have to make a choice -what a choice!: give help (life) or let them die. If you're retired, that means arguably death, it is preferable let survive some still active, a potential "producer" more than a "dead weight".

This morning Rome seamed a ghost city, like in western's movies: a couple of barking dogs, one or two tramps/beggars.
1/10 people traveling on metro or bus.

OK.
That's all folks.
Ave imperator, morituri te salutant!

Stay safe Bobbo!

After todays lunchtime Cobra meeting it's reported that all football games will be played behind closed doors very soon. I wonder if it's literally all games or that non league will be okay?

The Times and Matt Smith reported last night it'll be anything with significantly large crowds. So all those that didn't want to go to Aldershot may have got their wish!

Boreham Wood will still be fine.

The Times article only talks about the 'professional' game meaning the Premier League and the EFL. While the Premier League clubs with all their wealth could cope with playing behind closed doors the vast majority of EFL clubs couldn't, especially those in Leagues One and Two.

However does 'professional' include non league and if so how far down the pyramid. There has been talk of crowds of over 1,000 being the criteria for playing behind closed doors which would include most of the National League sides and quite a few in the North and South. If National League clubs who average over 1,000 spectators were instructed to play behind closed doors then I believe it would have to be an 'all or nothing' scenario and the National League instructs ALL it's clubs to play behind closed doors as it would be unfair to allow a few clubs to have spectators and others not.

If this scenario The National League (including North & South) then how far down the pyramid does it go down?

My wife and I are extremely concerned as to how this will play out. We own and operate our gym business. There are no guidelines for situations such as this. Members choosing not to attend is one thing but cancellations etc will be a whole new ball game. We are also in the process of buying a new house, we have sold our place and move out next month. Safe to say I am extremely concerned that our business and our home could be at risk. Our thoughts go out to you Bobbo and everyone affected by the virus - it's starting to hit events here, NBA has postponed the season, The Big 12 college basketball is being played behind closed doors, no travel from Europe etc. This is just the tip of the iceberg I'm sure. A lot of people may be suggesting an over reaction, citing the flu and other issues but this is real and I never thought that it would begin to affect like it is. Silver lining? well the dead haven't started walking just yet.

In my very humble opinion UEFA, FIFA & CIO ARE understimating the VIRUS!

Champions League matches, how can they play, and where? Spain, Italy, Germany...?
Europa League, same as above.

What about the European Football Championship (EURO 2020)? How many players NO MORE playing (thus down on fitness) shall be on playing for their national team, would they be called? Nuh.

And the Olympic? Don't you think athletes shall be affected and NOT fit for any games?

Blindness due to MONEYgrabbers.

to be fair Bobbo - I'm seeing the decisions made here in the US are being made by the money people!
Some of us just don't have enough to make such decisions.

Stay well and take care please everyone
I’ve been in the centre of the virus Hubei of China for nearly 2 months and never had the chance of walking outside home. Tonight the government just announced to allow people go out as the whole city is considered finally safe from the virus. Hopefully all football matches would be called off and even though they go ahead I suggest everyone stay at home and stay away from the crowd for the safety of yourself and your family

Gym and Parkinson's work Just been shut down for thirty days from Tuesday. Cannot work, no work for my coaches. Have to freeze all my members accounts. No revenue coming in. In the middle of house sale and purchase. Fuck this.

Desert. Few ones hanging around towards markets to buy pasta and Co.
I have to go to work even if hotel is empty, we are a kind of security. Depressing.
I don't even know how much time would be needed to restart never mind recovering. Months. Many. Too many.
In hospitals they work tirelessly, neck to neck the race among life and death.
I fear the second or third wave of corona. Nobody talks about this. No lessons taken from the past Spanish Flu or Swain Flu (1918-1919).
Saw a report from SkyNews I cried like a puppy.

I saw that the daily number of new cases and deaths has fallen for the second day running in Italy, let's hope that this is a continuing trend. Let's hope that once this wave subsides, nobody relaxes in the search for a vaccine, or drugs that help the symptoms. Good luck to you and yours Bobbo.

We're in lockdown here in France since last Tuesday. Nothing much moving around and fines if you go out unnecessarily. Time to do all 'those' jobs....

Good luck Kansas, hopefully the house sale will get frozen?

Stay safe everyone.

Too right! My garden already looks better than ever, by the time lockdown ends I'll be able to charge people to look round it.
