Considering everything in their town shut at 5 and many of the pubs at 7, I was surprised their team turned up. At half time it had 0-0 all over it in my book but an inspired second half shows you under estimate us at your peril.
To the 97 young and old as one voice at the end, i salute you. That’s the way it should be.

Great result. Early days though. All the sides we have played have had poor starts. Encouraging, however.

Er... that's largely because they've played us. Had we lost to Dagenham, Harrogate and Chesterfield, all three of them would be in the top half of the table tonight.

Great performance tonight. Back four were great - especially Gerring who had arguably his best game for us, blocking time and time again. Donnellan and Ferdinand worked really hard against a decent midfield, supported by Edser who started further forwards, but dropped in to help out. Johnson was superb. Ended up almost as a left wing back, but set up the first with one of many dangerous crosses and IIRC won the free kick for the second by winning a ball he had no right to win. Tarpey should have had two - his header looked to be going on, before Meite blocked it, trod on the ball and somehow scored. Tarpey’s free kick was pure class and made the most of a really strong spell for us.

Tactically perfect from Dowse IMO. Lots of talent on show for the home team, but we soaked it up and hurt them.

A great night to be a Cardinal!

That was a ‘why we bother’ night. This team has something about it. They care, they battle, they play and they do it together. Something special beginning to occur here.

First goal was funny. Great cross to the far post, Tarpey has an easy header, Meite gets greedy and gets in the way, ball bounces around between them (and the post?) and Meite accidentally backheels it in. Which really cheered up the locals as they thought he should have been sent off earlier.
Lost a lot when Meite went off, bigger and faster than Jake Hyde so better at chasing down hacks clear.

I was there tonight, absolutely fantastic stuff tonight. There was 97 of us yet we made a better atmosphere than their four thousand. Amazing support.

If that is a 10k stadium then there were certainly not 3,900 home fans in.
Bizarrely one stand started bailing out with five minutes to go, whilst the other two stayed put for a bit longer.

Crap annoying drum in the home end too

Meite sounds like he’s thoroughly enjoying it here. Got to give Dowse loads of credit for that

Good pies are expensive and if you were in Chesterfield and they were expensive they must have been good

Finding it absolutely hilarious that there are fans on their twitter page and forum saying that Sheridan has been shafted with the budget and needs to be given the money to invest in the squad. They have 26 players signed, most are ex-league and must be commanding decent wages.

I think that's a massive compliment to the lads so far. We are making big spending teams question whether they have spent enough, meanwhile we are spending next to nothing and still winning games.

From Chesterfield forum
This club has been destroyed, it's entered the season completely unprepared and for all the domination we had I saw 11 Woking players who fought for everything despite been the part time outfit and it was exactly the same as when we lost that crunch game at Grimsby a couple of years back, their players simply wanted it more.

I’ve just seen the video of the first goal. Had Tarpey put it straight in, it would have been a truly exceptional team goal. The camera angle doesn’t quite show how lucky we were for it to eventually go in. If Meite ever claims he did that on purpose, he’s an outrageous liar!

I love the opposition fan reactions when poor little tinpot Woking beat them, nothing better than being an underdog 👍

I thought this forum overreacted badly sometimes, some of the comments on theirs are ridiculous. As if they had just been beaten by Westfield or Guildford City.

LOWEST MOMENT IN THE HISTORY OF CHESTERFIELD FC.

Literally 4 games in to the season. You'd have thought they've just been relegated to the Conference North.

I always find the full time / part time debate a great one

Just because we are part time does not mean we don't have good players, or fit ones. Just ones who train less but probably earn more with other jobs.
Still Plugging away in the absence of the great one

Agree, but based on what’s being spent in the league we’ve just come up from, many of the worst full timers are actually playing at a lower level than this one.
